From San Juan to Univision, Jackie Guerrido has built a life and career grounded in resilience, reinvention, and radiance. And after three decades on-air, she’s still winning hearts.
A Childhood Marked by Strength
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jackie Guerrido’s early years were shaped by adversity. At just seven years old, she and her sister joined their mother at Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, a shelter for survivors of domestic violence. The experience left a lasting mark that she would later honor in both word and action.
After graduating high school, she moved with her family to The Bronx. This opened the door to a new life and a future in broadcasting.
From Voiceovers to the Airwaves
Guerrido’s media journey began unexpectedly when a radio producer heard her voice-over work and offered her a role on WSKQ’s El Vacilón de la Mañana. That break led her to WRMA (106.7 FM) in Miami. There she co-hosted radio segments, delivered traffic updates, and eventually hosted her own music show at WRTO (98.3).
At the same time, she was also working on television as a traffic reporter for WSCV, Miami’s Telemundo affiliate — a double-duty hustle that quickly got Univision’s attention.
Becoming the Face of the Forecast
Univision hired Guerrido as a weather presenter for WLTV’s Al Amanecer, and she quickly became a mainstay on Despierta América and Primer Impacto. These are two of the network’s most-watched programs in the U.S. Hispanic community.
She deepened her credentials by studying meteorology at the University of Miami and journalism at the University of Florida. In 2017, she became co-anchor of Primer Impacto, where she continues to deliver news with authority and warmth.
Family, Marriage, and a Moment in the Spotlight
In 2008, Guerrido married reggaeton star Don Omar in Puerto Rico. The couple later divorced, with most reports citing 2013 as the year of their separation.
Guerrido is also a proud mother to two children, Thomas and Adieny, and has credited her family with giving her strength, perspective, and drive throughout her career. She keeps her personal life private and has not publicly confirmed a relationship since her divorce.
In 2010, she competed in Mira Quien Baila!, Univision’s version of Dancing with the Stars, finishing in second place. She donated her $10,000 prize to Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, bringing her journey full circle.
A Milestone Birthday and a Life Still in Motion
In September 2022, Primer Impacto aired a live special from Miami’s Versailles restaurant to celebrate what the program billed as Jackie Guerrido’s 50th birthday. Wearing a sleek white dress, she welcomed friends, colleagues, and her son, who led an on-air serenade.
Tribute videos rolled in from stars such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Aislinn Derbez, and Camilo, who joked, “You look like half of half of half of that.” Fashion commentator Jomari Goyso praised Guerrido for her generosity and early support of his career.
Nearly three decades after her first traffic report, Guerrido remains one of Univision’s most beloved personalities. Still poised, still professional, and still setting the standard.
Opening Up About Digital Addiction
In 2023, Guerrido shared a surprising personal moment on Despierta América, admitting she had struggled with cell phone addiction and made a conscious effort to change.
“I was no longer doing the same activities, my creativity was dulled, my routine wasn’t the same,” she explained.
With mindfulness and intention, she said, she regained focus and clarity:
“Now I’m aware of what I’m doing. I live the experience… being present has helped me feel better, mentally and physically.”
Her honesty resonated with viewers, reminding fans that even the most polished public figures face relatable challenges.
