Trump to bid farewell to King Charles after star-studded gala — follow live updates

President Trump is set to bid farewell to the British royals as they bring their four-day tour of the U.S. to a close today.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will meet with Trump and first lady Melania Trump this morning, after wrapping up their time in New York at the King’s Trust gala at the Rockefeller Center, New York.

A host of celebrities were in attendance, including Lionel Richie, Anna Wintour, Martha Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker, Stella McCartney, Leo Woodall and Meghann Fahy, among others.

The gala followed a series of events on the third day of the royals’ state visit, which included a visit to the 9/11 Memorial at the One World Trade Center.

The king spent Tuesday in the U.S. in Washington, D.C., where he attended a private bilateral meeting with Trump and gave an address to a joint session of Congress.

Despite tense relations between the U.S. and U.K. over the Iran war, the king’s visit has been a largely amicable affair, with the two leaders repeatedly emphasizing the importance of the “special relationship” between their nations — and occasionally cracking jokes about less pleasant incidents in the distant past.
