Dan + Shay Break Their Silence With Shocking Confession About Breakup Rumors

Dan + Shay Break Their Social Media Silence

After nearly a year away from social platforms, three-time GRAMMY-winning duo Dan + Shay returned with a heartfelt video to reassure fans, share life updates, and shut down rumors of a breakup.

A Whirlwind Year

Dan Smyers kicked things off, explaining that the hiatus wasn’t planned:

“We did not plan to take a social media hiatus for almost a whole year, but last year was crazy.”

He recapped 2024, noting that the duo filmed The Voice, completed two tours, released two Christmas albums, and went “wild” online during the holiday blitz. On top of that, Shay Mooney and his wife, Hannah, welcomed a new baby at the start of 2025.

The rest of their time has been spent in the studio: “We’ve been in the studio literally all year, pretty much every day making our favorite music we’ve ever made.”

“We’re Not Breaking Up”

Addressing speculation about their future, Smyers was crystal clear:

“People are asking, ‘Did Dan and Shay break up?’ Literally, we could not be further from breaking up.”

Mooney added with a laugh, “And physically close.”

The pair emphasized that they’re tighter than ever, enjoying the creative process, and excited for fans to hear what’s next.

What’s Coming Next

Before signing off, Dan + Shay teased a new Christmas song, plus “a couple other little surprises” before the end of 2025.

Looking ahead, Smyers promised a massive year: “…Next year’s going to be crazy. More music than ever. More shows, more tours than ever. We’re fired up. 2026 is going to be huge for us.”

They wrapped the video by thanking fans for their patience and support during their quiet spell.

Back in the Spotlight

Dan + Shay’s next project will follow 2023’s Bigger Houses, which included hits like “Save Me the Trouble” and its title track. Despite their low profile, they remain in the spotlight — currently nominated for CMA Vocal Duo of the Year alongside Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Maddie & Tae, and The War and Treaty.

For now, fans can rest easy knowing the duo isn’t going anywhere — and the best may be yet to come.
