A 17-year-old girl in Georgia has been arrested and charged with the murders of her mother and stepfather, months after the couple was found shot dead in their home.
Sarah Grace Patrick turned herself in this week at the Carroll County Jail, where she was formally charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Authorities say she will be tried as an adult.
The victims, Kristin Brock, 41, and James Brock, 45, were discovered shot to death in their bed on February 20. The case remained unsolved for months until new developments prompted authorities to issue arrest warrants for Patrick.
Investigation Still Ongoing, More Arrests Possible
“We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” said Ashley Hulsey, spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
“She’s 17, she’s kind of been out on her own. She’s lived with different family members and moved all over the place.”
Hulsey confirmed that Patrick surrendered voluntarily after being informed of the charges. She emphasized that the investigation is still active and additional arrests and charges may follow.
“Our team has sifted through mountains of physical and digital evidence and collaborated with the FBI and GBI crime lab,” Hulsey noted.
“A mother and stepfather will never be able to raise their children.”
According to family members, James Brock had reportedly been awaiting a heart transplant at the time of his death.
Community Reacts to Arrest with Shock and Grief
In the months following the double homicide, the Brocks’ loved ones offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The news of Patrick’s charges has shocked the local community.
“This is so horrendous,” said Kristin’s father, Dennis Nolan, in an earlier interview.
“You just can’t imagine that someone would come in and just take the life of two good people.”
Both Kristin and James Brock were remembered fondly by members of Catalyst Church, where they were active participants.
“Kristin was bubbly and fun and she loved hugs,” said church member Tasha Meza.
“She never met a stranger. And James, he was a comical kind of guy. He would always crack jokes and make you laugh.”
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
