Donald Trump went on another unhinged Truth Social binge, unloading a stream of conspiracy theories so detached from reality that even longtime observers of his behavior were left blinking.
In a series of late-night posts, the president shared a months-old video in which he accused former President Barack Obama of crimes so severe they would be punishable by death — despite, once again, offering no evidence of any kind.
“Barack Hussein Obama is the ringleader,” Trump declared in the clip, lumping Obama together with Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and former FBI Director James Comey. Trump went further, claiming Obama had been caught “absolutely cold” trying to “rig” elections.
“It’s there, he’s guilty,” Trump said. “This was treason, this was every word you can think of.”
There is no proof. There never has been. And yet Trump continues to recycle the same baseless claims years after courts, investigators, and even his own administration found nothing to support them.
Not content with accusing a former president of treason, Trump escalated the fantasy. In another post, he amplified a wild allegation asserting that China, Iran, Italy, Merrill Lynch, the CIA, the FBI, and various unnamed actors all collaborated with Obama to “install Biden as a puppet.” No evidence exists for that claim either — but that hasn’t stopped Trump from pushing versions of it for years.

The posting spree came on the same day the FBI executed a search warrant at a Georgia election office — a detail Trump seized on without context. Georgia, of course, is the state where Trump famously pressured Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to overturn his 2020 loss, a call now etched into the public record.
Trump’s evening spiral didn’t stop with election conspiracies. He also reposted claims that Walmart is closing 250 stores in California because of the state’s minimum wage — another falsehood. Walmart has not announced anything close to that figure, but Trump used the made-up statistic to launch more attacks on California and Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Newsom, who is widely expected to consider a 2028 presidential run, responded through his press office account, pushing back against Trump’s claims and calling out the misinformation.

The episode was classic Trump, scattershot accusations, recycled lies, and escalating rhetoric untethered from facts. But the language targeting Obama stood out even by Trump’s standards. Suggesting that a former president committed capital crimes, without evidence, isn’t just reckless. It’s dangerous.
This is the same pattern Trump has followed for nearly a decade: invent a conspiracy, name enemies, and raise the stakes. Courts reject the claims. Investigations collapse for lack of evidence. And Trump simply moves on to the next accusation.
What’s left is a president using his platform to promote fantasies of treason, execution, and vast global plots, all while ignoring the legal, political, and ethical consequences of what he’s saying.
