Who is Andy Griffith’s 65-year-old daughter? All about the legendary actor’s daughter

Andy Griffith became a beloved television icon thanks to his warm, wise portrayal of Sheriff Andy Taylor on The ‘Andy Griffith Show‘.

Off-screen, that same gentle spirit guided his approach to fatherhood—especially with his adopted daughter, Dixie Nann Griffith, born in September 1959.

Dixie Griffith Chose a Life Away from the Spotlight

Dixie’s childhood was a blend of Hollywood sets and North Carolina summers. “During the summers, we’d go back to North Carolina and play volleyball and water-ski,” she once recalled. “He’d always stop what he was doing to play with me—put me up on his shoulders in the pool.”

After Andy and her mother divorced in 1972, Dixie moved into her father’s home, living with him from age 13 to 18 and again, in the guest house, from 20 to 22.

Though her last name opened plenty of studio doors, Dixie deliberately stayed out of show business. “I could have been on the producers’ roster,” she said, “but I chose not to.” Fiercely protective, Andy supported that decision, and Dixie returned the favor by guarding his privacy. “I have kept a pretty low profile, which I still plan on doing,” she noted, years after his passing.

Eventually, Dixie married and settled in Colorado, where she raised three daughters of her own and focused on charitable work rather than the limelight. Her life today reflects the values Andy prized most—kindness, humility, and family—proving that the truest measure of a legacy isn’t fame, but the love passed from one generation to the next.

Andy Griffith passed away in 2012 at the age of 86, leaving behind a cultural legacy that still resonates through reruns and memories.
