FACT: NBC this fall will make room for one night of NBA action, every Tuesday during primetime.
FACT: As we speak, NBC has only officially renewed two of its scripted shows, with at least six dramas legitimately “on the bubble.”
WHAT IT ALL MEANS: A lot of hard decisions need to be made before NBC unveils its 2025-26 game plan at the Upfronts on May 12.
Maybe you can (hypotheoretically!) help?
All eyes have been on NBC’s schedulers ever since the NBA inked a multi-billion dollar deal with NBC Universal, Disney and Amazon, for the 2025-26 hoops season. Starting this fall, Peacock will stream a Monday night game… NBC and Peacock will show games on Tuesdays… and NBC and Peacock will host a Sunday Night Basketball program come 2026 (after Sunday Night Football wraps).
That loss of a full night of primetime this fall — coupled with the usual or expected commitments to Sunday Night Football, The Voice and #OneChicago, and let’s also assume Dateline and Saturday-night college football — means that NBC only has five (5!) hours to program.
Will The Voice stay on Monday, or switch nights so that the results show can still air the next day? Might any of #OneChicago be held for midseason? Will both Law & Orders be renewed? Which “bubble” show(s) would you pick up to fill any of the scarce openings? (And what would you hold for 2026?)
