Former US President Donald Trump has entered a not guilty plea in relation to criminal charges connected with his actions to challenge Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia during the 2020 election.
He has also waived his right to be present at his arraignment, which is scheduled for September 6th. Trump, a leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, faces multiple charges in other cases that coincide with the upcoming election campaign.
Trump and 18 others are co-defendants in a racketeering case, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, accused of attempting to overturn Biden’s win by persuading Georgia legislators to appoint fraudulent electors.
The indictment claims they participated in a criminal enterprise. The most severe charge Trump faces is violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, carrying a 20-year maximum sentence.
Trump was arrested and later released on a $200,000 bond with specific conditions, such as refraining from making threats via social media. The trial dates for his cases are set for 2024.
