25 years ago today, Jennifer Lopez earned her first #1 hit single with “If You Had My Love”. Released on May 4, 1999, the song served as Jennifer Lopez’s debut single and the lead single from her debut studio album, “On the 6”.
Written by Jennifer alongside LaShawn Daniels and Rodney Jerkins, the latter who also produced the song, it earned positive reviews from critics who praised its groove and production and how it complemented Lopez’s voice.
Upon its release, the song generated instant attention, and made Jennifer one of the FEW ACTORS tocross over SUCCESSFULLY into the music industry (usually artists cross over into films).
The music video earned heavy rotation on BET, MTV and VH1 and featured a voyeuristic internet theme, wherein a range of viewers watch Lopez through webcams through cyberspace, which is basically what we do everyday now.
AND IF Y’ALL SAY Y’ALL DIDNT WATCH THIS VIDEO ON CITA’S WORLD AND TRL YOU’RE A LIARRRRRRR!!!!!!
