Louise Warneford knew she wanted to start trying for a family as soon as she met her husband Mark in 1999.
Louise, from Swindon, England, began attempting to conceive when she was 32 years old, but her endeavors were tragically unsuccessful.
Louise never lost hope after 16 years of trying and 18 miscarriages; today, at 48 years old, she is the proud mother of baby William, and she couldn’t be happier.
IVF treatment cost Louise and her 55-year-old husband Mark nearly $100,000.
Because Mark had a vasectomy from a prior relationship, the couple turned to pricey IVF procedures to conceive.
Louise had little trouble getting pregnant, but she would miscarry her child at about 14 weeks.
Every time I miscarried, Louise said, “I couldn’t stop crying every time I got my hopes up and thought that ‘this was it’ and I was going to have the wonderful family I’d always wanted.”
“We chose to attempt IVF, but even though we became pregnant several times, we always lost the baby.”
A breakthrough was made just as the couple was about to give up when a doctor found that Louise had “killer cells,” which meant that her own body was destroying her embryos.
Louise finally received the necessary care, and she later got pregnant. William, her son, was delivered through C-section at 37 weeks.
An emotional Louise describes the moment she received her baby child as “wonderful.”
“I just couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t believe my luck, I still can’t believe my luck when the surgeon brought him to me. He was lovely. I felt as if I’d won the lottery,” she said.
Motherhood, in Louise’s opinion, is “the best job in the world.”
In the video below, Louise discusses her experience and offers advice to other couples who are trying to conceive.
