Joe Tasby, a blind Vietnam veteran who was sent to a Nevada hospital in March, was lucky enough to be permitted to have his yellow Labrador Retriever guide dog, Cupid, by his side throughout his stay at the facility. Cupid is a name he gave his dog.
When Tasby went to the HCA Healthcare facility in Las Vegas known as Southern Hills Hospital, he thought he would just be there for a few days at most.
However, the lung illness and cardiac arrhythmia that he suffered from kept him in for a lengthier period of time. After the hospital went into lockdown because of the coronavirus epidemic, Tasby’s daughter Tiffini used to visit her father on a regular basis to keep him company and to feed and walk Cupid. However, everything changed after the hospital was placed under quarantine.
Because Tasby was no longer permitted to have guests, his kid was unable to come and help him care for Cupid. Tasby was concerned about how he would care for his furry companion for the duration of their time spent in the hospital together.
When this occurred, a nurse by the name of Barbara Borbeck stepped forward to take care of both Tasby and Cupid.
Borbeck, who is the director of medical-surgical services and telemetry at the hospital, was of tremendous assistance to Cupid over the next three weeks and helped put Tasby’s anxieties to rest.
She would undoubtedly take him for a stroll around the hospital while she did her rounds each and every early morning. Additionally, she would bring him outdoors for some fresh air and exercise, and she would always make sure that he had enough food and treats.
Cupid took a shine to Borbeck and would often meet her at the front entrance, where he would beam broadly and wag his tail in enthusiastic welcome.
According to what Borbeck said to CBS Information, ” He really took to her.” “There were occasions when I would go into the room and find him leaping up and down, giddy with excitement and overjoyed to see her. In most cases, he is able to determine whether or not a person has a good spirit, and there is no question that Barbara possesses an outstanding spirit.
However, Borbeck’s therapy included a great deal more than just time spent in the hospital. When Cupid went out, she hunted for his favorite snack food all around town, visiting a total of nine different businesses in the area. In the end, she had to leave her work early to make the forty-minute drive to a different supermarket in order to get the food from a location that still had it in stock.
During this very trying period, Cupid was able to make the medical staff feel considerably better, which helped Borbeck in his care for Cupid. Borbeck took Cupid along with her as she made her rounds, and they went to a variety of departments so that the employees there could love on him.
After spending close to three weeks in the hospital, Tasby was given the green light to be released from the facility. Borbeck saw him and Cupid in their vehicle and accompanied them as they said their goodbyes.
According to Tasby’s statement to CBS News, “I left there feeling, ‘I need to find some form of means to show this woman how much I appreciate what she’s done for us during a difficult period.’” “It’s a stroke of good luck when you run across someone who is at the right place, at the perfect moment and performing the best point.
