Steve Irwin’s Grandchild Was Named in His Honor — Terri Said They Would ‘Never See’ the Baby If He Was Alive

Steve Irwin was a wildlife expert and zoo keeper famous for being a fearless animal lover. Steve died in 2006, and 16 years later, his daughter Bindi still feels his absence, especially after she welcomed her first child.

Steve Irwin, also known as Crocodile Hunter, was a famous Australian zoo keeper, wildlife expert, and enthusiast.

The environmentalist died in 2006 while filming the underwater film “Ocean’s Deadliest.” He was attacked by a stingray and took his last breath on September 4.

Irwin left behind two children, a daughter Bindi Irwin who was eight years old at the time, and a son Robert then two years old.

The death of the father two came as a shock to family and fans; Bindi still recalled running into concerned fans sending their condolences and claiming “time heals all wounds.”

But Bindi did not feel that her father’s absence would ever get better; she said: “It’s like losing a part of your heart, and when you’ve lost that, you never get it back.”

It has been over ten years since the crocodile hunter passed, and Bindi and Robert still bear the pain of losing a parent, but they still want to make their father proud.

Bindi and Robert are determined to follow in their father’s footsteps, even if the future may come with surprises; Robert said the Australia zoo will always be home, and they would never abandon it.

The Irwin siblings also honor their father’s legacy in many ways. They have made a comeback with an Animal Planet series called Crikey! It’s the Irwin’s, which looks into Rober and Bindi’s family life at the zoo they work and live in.

Bindi and her husband Chandler Powell tied the know in March 2020 at their family Australia zoo. The intimate wedding ceremony only had Binid’s Mother, Terri Irwin, and her brother Robert.

The wedding also had picture frames of Steve and a special video with moments of Bindi and her father to honor his spirit and to invite him to this monumental day.

Binned said these pieces of her father that she included in her wedding made her feel her father’s presence, and she believed he was there walking her down the aisle alongside her mother and brother.

Bindi and Powell welcomed their first child on their first anniversary. Bindi paid the most significant tribute to her father by naming her daughter after him.

The Irwin daughter shared a beautiful picture of her and her husband holding their newborn daughter and looking at her with admiration and love.

Bindi accompanied the post with an emotional caption expressing the joy of welcoming her daughter and described the meaning behind the name Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.

Bindi said the name Grace is from her great grandmother and her husband’s relatives, and the middle name is an honor to Steve and a continuance of his legacy as a wildlife warrior. She wrote:

“Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior.”

However, despite the pain of her father’s absence, Bindi knows Steve would have been the best grandfather to Grace. Most importantly, Bindi and her husband were happy to venture into their new role as parents.

After welcoming her first child, Binid realized that Grace would never get to meet and connect with her father, which is something that troubled the wildlife expert’s daughter.

Bindi knew how great Steve was as a father and wished her daughter would get to experience his adventurous spirit; she said:

“It’s hard knowing that she’ll never get to actually meet him, and it’s devastating because I’ll never get to watch that connection.”

Bindi knew that her father had immense love for children; if he were still alive, he would have wanted Grace all to himself. Although it hurts not to see Steve in his role as a grandfather, Bindi is holding on to how wonderful he would have been, and she is set on making sure Grace knows that too.

The reality star still has a lot of memories and stories about her father that she has held on to. Bindi plans to keep her father’s history alive by telling her daughter all the fun stories.

The memory of her father will continue to grow through generations as these stories are passed down, and Steve will continue to live through his children.

Bindi might be heartbroken, but above all else, she still believes her father is with them every day, happy to see his family grow, and she continues to feel his spirit at all times.

Bindi will keep his legacy within the family and for the people he touched with his fearless and adventurous nature on television and at his Australia zoo.
