These 19 Photos Show The Love George And Barbara Shared Over 80 Years Of Romance

Barbara Bush passed away on April 17, 2018 at the age of 92 in her home in Houston Texas after refusing medical care. She was well known as the “grandmother of the United States” and leaves behind 14 actual grandchildren. Her husband, George H. W. Bush held her hand in her hand for her entire last day, after almost 80 years of romance together.

George and Barbara shared a wonderful life together. Here are some photos that capture their best moments.

George served in the Navy during World War II and would write letters to Barbara, telling her how excited he was to marry her and have children with her. He often addressed the letters to “My Darling Bar” and would sign them “Poppy.”

George and Barbara were married on January 6, 1945, just a few weeks after George returned home from the South Pacific. They were married for 73 years, the longest running Presidential marriage in history.

They had six children together, but tragically, one died at the age of 3 from luekemia.

Barbara was right by George’s side throughout his political career, and then watched her son rise through the ranks to also become President.

George and Barbara had plenty of adventures together. Whether it was spending time at their ranch in Texas, their vacation home in Maine, or even skydiving!

They truly loved each other, and weren’t afraid to show their affection in public.

Rest in peace, Barbara. We can all only hope to live a life as full as yours!
