In a post on Truth Social, which he later confirmed in recorded remarks to the media, President Donald Trump declared that he was nullifying the pardons granted to the members of the J6 Committee, including former Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) and current Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), for their involvement in the J6 Committee, as well as President Biden’s last-minute pardons for his family members, General Mark Milley, and Dr. Fauci. President Trump rationalized his decision by stating that former President Biden was not in a sound state of mind when he authorized them.
To provide context, the primary reason for President Trump’s annulment of the pardons for the “Unselect Committee” members, as Trump refers to them, and others, was the claim that the pardon allegedly signed by former President Biden was executed using an autopen, similar to most other documents that were purportedly signed by him, and therefore were not genuinely signed by the then-president, which could render them invalid. Additionally, some reports suggest that former President Biden was unaware of the pardons, further undermining their validity.
Regardless, in a post on Truth Social early on the morning of Monday, March 17, President Trump attributed the issue to the autopen mentioned in the first sentence and proclaimed the pardons completely void, stating, “The “Pardons” that Sleepy Joe Biden granted to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, due to the fact that they were executed by Autopen.”
Furthermore, the president elaborated on the significance of the autopen, subsequently asserting that it seems the former president was not even aware of what or who was being pardoned. He remarked, “In other words, Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them! The necessary Pardoning Documents were not explained to, or approved by, Biden. He knew nothing about them, and the individuals who did may have committed a crime.
President Trump subsequently expressed his views regarding the conduct and actions of the January 6 Committee, pledging to hold them accountable through an investigation. He stated, “Therefore, those on the Unselect Committee, who destroyed and deleted ALL evidence obtained during their two-year Witch Hunt against me and many other innocent individuals, should fully comprehend that they are subject to investigation at the highest level.”
In conclusion, President Trump reiterated his criticism of the committee members and raised additional questions about the legitimacy of the pardon, asserting, “The fact is, they were likely responsible for the Documents that were signed on their behalf without the knowledge or consent of the Worst President in the History of our Country, Crooked Joe Biden!”
In a video recorded by CSPAN, President Trump addressed the issue, contending that the former president was unaware of the situation, rendering the pardons invalid. He remarked, “It’s not my decision. That would be up to a court, but I would argue that they’re null and void because I’m certain Biden had no knowledge that it was occurring.” Watch him here:
Collin Rugg, providing additional context on X, remarked that the pardons that have been voided encompass not only the members of the J6 Committee but also include Fauci, General Mark Milley, and members of Biden’s family. Rugg stated, “JUST IN: President Trump asserts that Biden’s last-minute pardons issued prior to leaving office are invalid due to the purported use of ‘autopen.’ ‘Joe Biden did not sign them; more importantly, he was completely unaware of them!’ The pardons granted by Biden comprised: – His family members – Dr. Fauci – General Mark Milley – J6 Committee.
