Taylor Swift ‘devastated’ by death of fan at Brazil Eras Tour concert

Taylor Swift says she’s been left ‘devastated’ after a fan tragically died before her concert in Rio de Janeiro on Friday (17 November).

The ‘Karma’ singer is currently touring the globe with her Eras Tour, though tragedy struck during her latest concert.

At the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos, where the concert was held, concertgoers reported sweltering conditions as soaring temperatures baked the Brazilian city – with it reported to have reached over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the stadium.

As a result, Swift briefly paused her live concert last night so that fans could stock up on water, with Swift even seen throwing bottles to fans while she was singing so they could stay hydrated.

At one stage, fans could even be heard chanting ‘Water, water, water’ as Swift belted out some of her all time classics.

The fan who tragically lost their life was named by Brazilian newspaper Fohla de S Paulo as Ana Clara Benevides.

She was just 23 years old, with local media reporting she fainted at the show and suffered a cardiac arrest.

Swift has subsequently took to Instagram to say she is ‘overwhelmed by grief’ following the tragedy.

She said: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.

“There’s very little information I have, other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”

The singer added: “I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it.

“I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”

Peter Cohan, an associate professor of management at Babson College, made the rather unbelievable estimate recently for The Washington Post, as Eras Tour looks to break many records.

In fact, Swift’s earnings from the tour are set to be more than 42 nations’ yearly economic output.

Bloomberg reported last month Swift has officially reached billionaire status – 17 years after she first began her music career.

The ‘Shake It Off’ singer joined an elusive club, which includes the likes of Kim Kardashian and Oprah Winfrey.
