Katie Couric marked her 11th wedding anniversary with her “favorite guy” in June and she had the photos (and the humor) to prove it.
A love story 11 years — and countless adventures — in the making
On Saturday, June 21, the former Today anchor, 68, celebrated her wedding anniversary with John Molner, 62, by sharing a nostalgic Instagram post filled with snapshots from their years together.
The album was a mix of glamorous red-carpet moments, sun-soaked travel shots, and one particularly sweet wedding-day memory. Her caption read like a love letter with a side of self-deprecating charm.
“Happy anniversary (11!!!!) to my favorite guy,” she began. “Wow, Molner, we have covered a lot of ground — as Dr. Seuss would say, ‘Oh the places you’ll go’… well, we’ve probably been there! Thank you for being my port in the storm, my safe space, my rock during these crazy times. Sorry I’m so messy, aka ‘the tornado.’ I’m working on it!”
She wrapped the tribute with a wink at their future: “Here’s to more adventures on the back nine as you would say. ⛳️ Ella’s right. How lucky to be loved by you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Famous friends — and a little playful teasing
Couric’s post quickly filled with warm wishes from friends and fans alike. Actress Michelle Monaghan called them a “beautiful couple!!” while singer Richard Marx joked: “Happy anniversary to you kids! Knowing Molner even longer than I know you, I’m well aware the congrats go to you. For PATIENCE! 😂 Love you both ❤️.”
Molner, for his part, posted his own Instagram tribute, sharing a slideshow of their favorite moments together. “11 years ago you and I tied the knot! It’s a long day… yes, the longest day of the year… so I have time to play this morning and get back soon to celebrate together!❤️❤️” he wrote.
From backyard “I dos” to building a media brand together
Nearly 15 years after the death of Couric’s first husband, Jay Monahan, she met Molner in 2012 through a mutual friend. Couric asked her friend Molly, whose husband is a trauma surgeon, if she knew any doctors to set her up with. Molly didn’t, but suggested Molner reach out. ‘What can I say? He had me at hello,’ Couric later told PEOPLE.
By Labor Day weekend in 2013, Molner was down on one knee during a beach getaway. The couple wed the following June in an intimate backyard ceremony at Couric’s East Hampton, New York, home, with both of their children playing a role in the big day. Couric later said Molner handled most of the planning.
“It was very, very intimate and special,” Couric told Today in 2014. “The weather was perfect, the garden looked beautiful, and we had these incredible dahlias all over the place.”
Since then, the two have blended love and work seamlessly. In 2018, they co-founded Katie Couric Media, with Molner as CEO and Couric in a creative and editorial role — a pairing she’s described as a natural fit between a “strong, smart businessman” and a journalist motivated by her broad media experience and the challenge of addressing the constant flow of information and misinformation online.
Still laughing, still loving
Eleven years in, their posts prove that Couric and Molner are still traveling, still laughing and still each other’s biggest supporters.
As Couric wrote in her anniversary message, “How lucky to be loved by you.”
