In 2013, after a year and a half together, Justin proposed to her at the location of their first date . The then-aspiring director documented the proposal in a video he posted on YouTube .
The 25-minute recording unexpectedly went viral on social media . In fact, even though they weren’t famous, media outlets reported on it. It currently has more than 14 million views.
“ On April 13th, I proposed to my girlfriend Emily at the restaurant where we had our first date ,” the performer wrote in the video description on the platform.
“ I told her she’d be late, had the restaurant opened just for her, and set up hidden cameras around her . When she sat down at the table, there was a television in front of her, ready to take her on a journey that would lead to the proposal of a lifetime,” he said.
During the video, Justin is seen lip -syncing to a few songs, orchestrating a flash mob , and finally popping the question to his then-girlfriend , who readily agreed to become his wife.

Their firstborn, Maiya Grace , was born in June of that year. The couple later shared that Emily was pregnant with their second baby with a new video posted in May 2017.
Their second son, Maxwell Roland-Samuel , joined the family on October 18 of that year. The couple’s children are currently 9 and 7 years old, respectively.

Regarding the children, Justin told Mini in an interview that he hopes they grow up to be more like Emily. “ I hope they grow up to have a lot more of her than me ,” he expressed in the 2019 interview.
