Former President Jimmy Carter’s health remains “essentially unchanged” since entering hospice care over a year ago, his grandson Jason Carter reported. Despite the prolonged period in hospice, Jason noted, “He’s really coming to the end, but he knows he’s not in charge, and we don’t know when that will be.”
Jason shared this update on 11Alive’s Sunday politics show, The Georgia Vote, expressing amazement at his grandfather’s resilience. “When he first went into hospice, we thought we had a matter of days with him,” he said.
Reflecting on Jimmy Carter’s spirit, Jason mentioned, “He turned 99 last year… we’ve all been worried that he’s miserable.” However, he shared a touching moment from Carter’s 99th birthday. “The Carter Center had done this enormous social media project… I said, ‘Papa, from thousands and thousands and thousands of people’ and ‘from over 100 countries.’” Carter’s reaction was profound, realizing his global impact.
“He kind of teared up,” Jason shared.
