Leah Remini takes legal action against the Church of Scientology for years of harassment

Leah Remini, a well-known actress, has filed a lawsuit against the Church of Scientology, claiming that she has been subjected to a decade-long campaign of stalking, surveillance, harassment, threats, and intimidation. She also alleges that the organization spread intentional malicious rumors about her.

Remini initiated the legal action just days before the pre-sentencing hearing of Danny Masterson, a convicted rapist and prominent member of the Church. In an Instagram statement, she boldly declared, “For 17 years, Scientology and David Miscavige have subjected me to psychological torture, defamation, surveillance, harassment, and intimidation, severely affecting my life and career. I believe I am not the first person targeted by Scientology and its operations, but I intend to be the last.”

According to Remini’s extensive 60-page dossier, the Church of Scientology has actively targeted her and invaded her privacy since she officially left the organization in 2013. Shockingly, coordinated campaigns against her began even earlier, in 2006, while she was still a member.

The lawsuit specifically points to the Church of Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs (OSA), responsible for monitoring both Scientologists and individuals considered enemies of the religion. This approach, known as a “series of directives,” originated from L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

Since publicly leaving the Church, Remini claims to have been relentlessly pursued by OSA and its operatives. Their goal was to completely silence her, obliterate her reputation, and ruin her entirely. The lawsuit states that Remini became the victim of malicious and fraudulent rumors spread through hundreds of Scientology-controlled social media accounts, created solely to intimidate and spread false information. Astonishingly, Scientology even paid social media platforms like Twitter to promote these tweets using tax-exempt funds.

The harassment didn’t stop there. The lawsuit further reveals how the Church of Scientology has continually targeted and harassed Remini’s family members, friends, colleagues, and business associates. This relentless interference has caused her to lose personal relationships, business contracts, and other lucrative opportunities.

One particularly disturbing example mentioned in the lawsuit is the Twitter account @standmonitor, which has shared thousands of offensive and harassing tweets about Remini. In March 2023 alone, they posted over 247 tweets targeting her, including photoshopped images and false captions suggesting that Remini supports rapists. The hashtag #ReminiLovesRapists was even used to amplify these false allegations.

In an attempt to reconcile her doubts about Shelly Miscavige’s whereabouts during Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding, Remini was instructed to travel to the FLAG Land Base building in Clearwater, FL. There, she was subjected to an “ethics cycle,” which she described as one of her worst nightmares as a Scientologist.

During this process, Remini was presented with numerous internal reports from fellow Scientologists, all complaining about her behavior at the wedding. It became clear to her that she was being punished for her inquiries into Shelly Miscavige and her reports on David Miscavige and others. Remini was held at the FLAG base for four months, enduring a costly and emotionally taxing procedure that nearly pushed her to a point of breakdown.

Ultimately, she succumbed to pressure and retracted her claims, even forced to lie to her loved ones about the events in Florida upon her return to Los Angeles.

In filing this lawsuit, Remini aims to protect her rights and the rights of others as granted by the United States Constitution. She seeks to speak the truth and report the facts about Scientology without fear of vindictive retribution. If you support Leah Remini and others who have left the Church of Scientology, please help spread the word.
