For the Grammy-winner it will be a homecoming of sorts, as Judd is a Kentucky native.

“I am so proud to represent my home state, taking part in one of the most storied and iconic traditions. The Kentucky Derby is something I look forward to every year and being able to perform this year makes the momentous event even more special.”

“From going to the racetrack as a little girl to now singing the Star-Spangled Banner during this MILESTONE year, it’s such a full circle moment 🥰,” she wrote on social media.

“Wynonna Judd is a multigenerational talent who has helped shape country music over the years, and a Kentucky native, making her the perfect artist to set the stage for this once-in-a-lifetime Kentucky Derby,” President of Churchill Downs Racetrack Mike Anderson said. “We’re excited for Wynonna to bring her powerful voice back to Louisville to convey the wide range of emotion for which this landmark occasion calls.”

Judd isn’t the only country star to have performed the national anthem before the Kentucky Derby.

Carly Pearce, Brittney Spencer, Jennifer Nettles, Leann Rimes, Lady A, Rascal Flatts, and more have had the privilege of singing before the race.

This year Martha Stewart will serve as the “Riders Up” announcer, and Lana Scott will sing the national anthem prior to the Kentucky Oaks.

You can watch Wynonna Judd sing the national anthem before the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 4.
