Actor Ryan Gosling appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show and talked about his Oscar performance and what went behind the scenes. Gosling gave an entertaining performance of I’m Just Ken song, from his movie Barbie, at the 96th Academy Awards. However, the bigger surprise of the night was when Slash, the iconic guitarist, joined him during his performance on stage. This unexpected appearance surely ended up being one of the highlights of the evening. The Fall Guy actor also talked about how nervous he was before the gig and in a conversation with Jimmy, he revealed that he now wonders what made him so tensed and nervous about the whole thing. When Jimmy appreciated Ryan for pulling off such a great performance while being nervous, the actor added, “I wonder why”.
Ryan also talked about the uncertainty regarding Slash’s appearance as he had other commitments at that time. Gosling revealed that it wasn’t clear if he could make it to the performance on time or not.
“It was very tense because he had a gig in China the night before and then one in Thailand the night after. So it was like, ‘Slash is never going to be able to be here,” Gosling said. He further explained that there was a lot of stress as the guitarist had a tight schedule.
During the conversation, the actor also said that it was very important to have Slash perform with him during the event. “We had to have Slash. He’s an enigma. How can you have Slash? You can’t have Slash,” he added.
Remembering the night of the actual performance, Gosling said that there was tension all around backstage as Slash had a concert in China the night before and another one in Thailand the night after. Hence, it didn’t seem like he would be able to make it on time for the performance. Gosling mentions that Slash had also missed most of their rehearsals together.
However, Slash had finally arrived. “Suddenly, as I was walking into dress rehearsal, I saw a guitar case with a skull and a top hat on it,” Gosling said.
After their performance on the beloved Barbie song, Slash playing guitar became one of the most talked-about moments of the Oscars 2024.
