Jennifer Lopez has spoken out about her view on women aging – and let’s just say, it’s just what we needed to hear.
Now, it’s no secret that women have been forced to adhere to several impossible beauty standards over time, but more recently, they have been reclaiming what it means to them to actually feel beautiful.
Appearing on the latest cover of ELLE’s Women in Hollywood, 54-year-old Lopez discussed how Hollywood has finally started accepting older women in a variety of roles after years of exclusion.
“People have realized that women just get sexier as they get older,” she told the outlet. “They get more learned and more rich with character. All of that is very beautiful and attractive, and not just physically, but on the inside, the beauty that you gain as you get older, the wisdom you gain.”

She then went on to state that she was extremely happy to see a shift in the industry.
“It has changed a lot, and I think it’s appropriate,” she continued. “As you get older and you have more experience, you become a richer human being and you have more to offer. The idea of, ‘There’s nothing really valuable about watching a woman over 30’ is so ridiculous, it’s the opposite of right.
“It just makes me laugh,” she added.
And this becomes an important aspect of change for Lopez too, because she doesn’t plan on slowing down in her career any time soon.
“I see myself working [as long as] I want to. I don’t know what that age is. It might be 70, it might be 80, it might be 90, I don’t know. But I know that it’s there for me if I want it and I want to create it,” the ‘On The Floor’ hitmaker stated.

Lopez’s Elle photoshoot is proof that women do age as gracefully – if not better – than men, who have always seemed to get a free pass in Hollywood.
The singer posed in a gorgeous gold-foil gown that had a cape attached to the one-shoulder detailing. Her hair was slicked back into a tight bun while accessorizing with matching statement earrings.
In another photo, the star can be seen wearing a mesh cut out midi dress with uneven hemming and matching mesh pumps as she posed for the camera.
Elsewhere in the interview, when she was questioned about any upcoming projects, Lopez said she’s open to trying something new.
“I want to keep evolving,” she said. “And whether I’ll take the helm and direct my own film at one point is a possibility,” she added, while confessing that she’s “been offered to direct a couple of things,” but had to decline “because of time constraints.”
The 54-year-old’s schedule seems pretty tight at the moment as she prepares to release her first album in almost a decade – music to the ears of fans who have been waiting patiently for the Puerto Rican performer to drop some new content.
We can’t wait to see what she has in store for us!
