Since modern popular culture can remember, Ricky Martin has lived in the glitz of the global spotlight. The Puerto Rican singer was one of the biggest stars in the world in the 1990s thanks to his ability to sing, dance, and act all at once.
Martin is renowned for his broad musical range and ability to seamlessly transition between a variety of musical styles, including Latin pop, pop, dance, reggaeton, and salsa, among many others. Martin has long been referred to as the “King of Latin Pop,” the “King of Latin Music,” and the “Latin Pop God” by numerous worldwide publications and magazines due to his natural talent and obvious appeal.
Since he was nine years old, Martin has worked in the entertainment sector, making appearances in a number of television commercials. But when he joined Menudo, one of the most popular boy bands of all time, at the age of 12, his life’s course changed irrevocably.
Martin, who had become a teen heartthrob during his five years with the group, left to pursue a solo music career. His fourth album, “Vuelve,” which brought him his first Grammy Award and at the time a standing ovation at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards, solidified his reputation in Europe after his third album, “A Medio Vivir,” propelled him there.
His popularity, which has been generally acknowledged for propelling Latin pop into the mainstream music, together with the release of his first English album and “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” has made him an important contributor to both Latin music and music in general.
Martin’s existence in the spotlight wasn’t all sunshine, though; he also had to hide a significant aspect of himself from the public because he was afraid that the scrutiny would dominate and negatively impact his life.
Thanks to his genuine Latino looks, charisma, and oozing sex appeal, Martin was widely regarded as one of the most gorgeous guys in the entire globe. Martin became a pop icon and a global sex figure in addition to his voice and charm. He was the most eligible bachelor on the planet at the moment, so everyone was highly interested in his love life.
The “Maria” hitmaker had a long history of relationships with women. Alejandra Guzmán, a musician from Mexico, Gabriela Sabatini, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Ines Misan were a few of the ladies Martin dated. Rebecca de Alba, a Mexican television presenter, was possibly his most known liaison.
The relationship between De Alba and Martin was turbulent and sadly involved a miscarriage. They eventually split up, and Martin, who was then 37, made the decision to start over as a single father. In 2008, Matteo and Valentino, Martin’s twins, were delivered via gestational surrogacy with the aid of science.
Then, two years later, Martin made a revelation that astonished his countless global followers. Martin publicly revealed his sexual orientation after years of concealment in the form of a post on his website:
“I am a privileged gay man, and I am pleased to say that. I count myself fortunate to be who I am.
More openly discussing his sexuality in 2013, Martin acknowledged that he has in the past bullied gay people in an effort to suppress his homosexual impulses. According to his memoir, “Me” Martin even worried that coming out as gay at the time might result in “something dreadful, something truly terrible.”
But Martin didn’t find his real love until six years after he came out to everyone.
A disguised photo of Swedish-Syrian painter Jwan Yosef and Martin hanging out in 2016 sparked speculations that Martin had a boyfriend. When they appeared together for the first time in public at the 2016 amfAR Inspiration Gala, the music legend announced their relationship a few weeks later.
Martin said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in November of the same year that he had previously proposed to Yosef and that they were engaged. Martin said that they were already married when he spoke to Entertainment News Online in 2018 at the red carpet premiere of “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”
“We exchanged vows, swore (sic) everything, and signed all the necessary documents, including prenuptial agreements, he informed the site. “It feels fantastic! I’m not allowed to call him my fiance. I can’t. My hubby is him. He is my guy.”
As they spend time together as a family and alternate between residing in New York, Puerto Rico, and the West Coast, Yosef and Martin have been busy raising their two children, Matteo and Valentino.
“When we are together, our children are stable. “Home is wherever we are at the moment,” Martin said.
Lucia Martin-Yosef, their third child and first daughter, was born on December 31st, making it a very fortunate day for Martin and Yosef. Renn Martin-Yosef, the couple’s third son and fourth child, joined their expanding family in October 2019.
Without a doubt, Martin’s struggles with his sexuality when he was younger were difficult, but they were well worth it in the end because he is now happily married to the person he truly loves and has the benefit of four lovely children.
