Blake Shelton Shares He’s Hoping to ‘Cut Back or Stop Drinking Altogether’ in the New Year

Blake Shelton is making a healthy commitment for 2024.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published Thursday, the country star, 47, shared that the New Year’s resolution he hasn’t managed to stick to in previous years is curbing his drinking. But he hopes 2024 will be his year.

“I haven’t managed to stop drinking yet,” said Shelton. “Even cutting back has been hard. I mean, it’s a resolution though. And I’ll say it again right now — that’s my New Year’s resolution. To either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let’s just say I said it.”

As for what he and and wife Gwen Stefani have planned for this New Year’s Eve, the former The Voice coach told ET that they’re planning an early night.

“If we’re at home during New Year’s Eve, we’re probably going to bed before it even happens,” he said.

Last month the country star revealed some of the challenging aspects of being a stepparent.

“I’ve had stepparents,” Shelton said. “I think it’s, in some ways, harder, more difficult. I try to be careful about when to step back and be smart about when to step back and just talk, but no matter what, I’m always there if I’m needed,” he told TODAY.

And speaking with PEOPLE last December, Shelton opened up about prioritizing family over career.

“If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again,” he shared.

“Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously. The kids see me as a very important person in their life,” he continued. “[When they ask,] ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”
