Video: The song “One Angel,” performed by Rory Feek after the passing of his wife Joey from cancer, is a heartbreakingly beautiful tribute to her brave fight against the disease.

Rory and Joey were a popular country music combo for many years and toured extensively. In 2014, they became parents for the first time to a little girl whom they called Indiana. But just a few short months later, Joey received the news that she had cervical cancer. Joey lost a long and valiant fight against cancer in 2016, and her passing was mourned all across the globe.

Sandy Lawrence had known Joey for quite a long time and was struggling to come to terms with her closest friend’s passing. Sandy made the decision to express her feelings via the medium of music.

In a recent post on his blog, Rory Feek provided specifics on the background of the song “One Angel.” “About a year or so after Joey’s passing, Sandy sent me an email including a song with the simple message, “…I had to get this song out of me in order to come to peace with the loss of my friend.” Since then, I must have played the song a hundred times on my iPod. And I understand her emotions.”

Dealing with the loss of a loved one may be a challenging and trying experience. We experience a whole range of feelings, from joy to rage and all in between. Today, Rory Feek is performing ‘One Angel,’ a song that is very close to his heart, with the assistance of another country music icon, Dolly Parton.

And as you listen to them sing out the chorus, which will tear at your heart, you’ll have to fight back the tears.
