No one can get you ready for something like this.
Having children is a great gift that many people are fortunate to have in their lives.
Not all pregnancies are joyful experiences.
Having a baby can sometimes be so dangerous that it can even cause a mother’s death.
Mothers are surprisingly likely to die while giving birth or shortly after.
Women who have a caesarian section are three times more likely to die than women who give birth vaginally.
One mother, 35-year-old Nikita Washington, passed away after having a C-section for her twelfth child.
Nikita had a son, Nathanial, in early December of 2022, but sadly she died soon afterwards due to a medical condition called “postpartum hemorrhage”.
She was alone at the hospital when it happened because her partner, the baby’s father, wasn’t around and her mom was taking care of her other kids.
The next day, Patricia Pouncey received a call telling her that her daughter had died. She had to go and get her baby.
Patricia was very sad and extremely upset when she went to get her newest grandchild.
She realized from the beginning that she would do whatever she could to make sure all the kids stayed together and with her.
Nikita’s children are aged between 19 years old and 3 months old, with Nathaniel being the youngest.
Patricia said she has not talked to the hospital except for getting her daughter’s birth certificate and the harsh notification of her death on the same day.
The hospital said they are sorry for the family’s loss, but they can’t give out any more details when asked by People magazine.
Patricia is determined to do a great job for the children, but she didn’t think she’d need to fit 12 growing kids into her little house.
She is now trying to find a bigger house where she and all of the children can be successful.
Patricia has created a GoFundMe page to collect money for Nikita’s funeral expenses, and to make sure their children are taken care of and have everything they need.
The goal of $10,000 for the funeral was quickly reached, so it was increased to $75,000 for the children and that amount was also quickly met.
So far, over $106,000 has been donated to the family and donations continue to arrive every day.
Many people were deeply affected by this tragedy and wanted to help in any way they could.
“I’m really sorry for what happened. I hope the future is full of happiness and blessings for you.” said the donator.
I’m so sorry for your terrible loss. I’m sending love and support to all the children and family.
Patricia is thankful for any help she gets, but she knows nothing can bring her daughter or her grandchildren’s mom back.
Patricia, while holding baby Nathaniel and rubbing his chest, says to him every day, “Your mother is right here with you.”
