Angie Dickinson nearly wed Frank Sinatra after a 20-year on-and-off relationship, but she instead married a man who “never loved her”…

For over twenty years, Angie Dickinson and Frank Sinatra were romantically involved and came close to being married. She did marry someone else, but their relationship was disastrous.

Angie Dickinson once asserted that she and actor and musician Frank Sinatra had a committed relationship. For years, the couple’s relationship was on and off, but it never progressed in a meaningful way.

The actress hired a replacement who wasn’t as well-known as Sinatra. Dickinson wed the composer, but she subsequently said that he never truly loved her.

In September 1931, Angie Brown was born in Kulm, North Dakota. Due to her father’s projectionist job, which provided free admission, she grew up being exposed and attending movies.

She enjoyed movies, but due to the degree she obtained when her family moved to California, she ended up working as a secretary. Additionally, the celebrity participated in beauty pageants, which helped her land a part on “The Colgate Comedy Hour.”

When Angie first watched Jimmy Durante and Frank Sinatra performing together, she realized that was the field she wanted to work in. After that, she had multiple appearances in western television movies. In 1959, she costarred in “Rio Bravo” with her boyhood idol, John Wayne.

When she was given the opportunity to star in “Police Woman” for four seasons beginning in 1974, the actress gained self-assurance and a new career. As Los Angeles’ Sgt. Pepper Anderson, who sported slit skirts and go-go attire, she became a Hollywood sex icon.

By 1962, Angie had already received the Golden Garter Award from Hollywood. By that time, she had already gone through her first marriage to Gene Dickinson and its subsequent divorce. She met the tall, attractive man while they were both attending Glendale College.

Despite being an electronics enthusiast and former college football player, Gene chose to become an accountant. The couple’s marriage, which lasted for five years and terminated in divorce in 1960, started in 1952.

2015 saw 83-year-old Angie go to a Citi credit cards-sponsored event. At the occasion, the actress talked openly about her relationship with Sinatra, calling it a “20-year, on-and-off” one.

She acknowledged that their romance began after she made a 1953 appearance on the “Colgate Comedy Hour.” She was informed by Sinatra’s bodyguard that he wanted to see her in his dressing room.

When Angie met the musician as requested, he inquired as to whether she was dating anyone. She acknowledged that she was, but he remained curious in getting her phone number, so the actress provided it to him.

The actress praised Sinatra’s voice and called him “one of the most fascinating men there ever was.” Angie played his wife in “Ocean’s 11,” which they got to star in together in 1960.

Angie made a startling revelation about her and Sinatra on “CBS Sunday Morning” in 2019. She stated that they had a passionate affair in that interview and added that they were “quite close to getting married in 1964” after finishing the film.

“And I didn’t really want to get married to him. I therefore didn’t want him to propose to me. I couldn’t say no to Frank Sinatra, so I did!”

Sinatra didn’t want to marry an actress, so he wasn’t interested in getting married to Angie either, and she didn’t blame him. Dickinson didn’t benefit much from his late-night habits, and she didn’t want to be a part of them.

Instead, the actress wed renowned musician Burt Bacharach in 1965; they had a daughter named Lea Nikki Bacharach, who sadly passed away in 2007 at the age of 40. Due to dissatisfaction in their marriage, the musician and Angie decided to separate for five years in 1976.

Burt lived at their beach house in Del Mar, California, but continued to utilize their Beverly Hills residence. Angie continued to view them as a married couple even though the actress had other relationships while her husband did too.

A divorce resulted from the musician behind “What the World Needs Now” apparently cheating on his wife. The actress explained in 2019 why the union between the composer and actress terminated in 1981:

“I can tell you right now that he has never truly loved me. He expressed his love in an unsuitable manner. He did not respect me as a result.”

Angie allegedly had an affair with President John F. Kennedy at one point. Although the actress confessed that she believed President Kennedy was terrific and was thrilled to be associated with him, not all of the charges were unfounded.

Angie Dickonson, an actress, claimed that she had the freedom to go out whenever she wanted.

The newly published book “Jack and Jackie: Portrait of an American Marriage” by author Christopher Andersen quoted Angie as saying that having sex with Kennedy was “the most exhilarating seven minutes of my life.”

She once spoke with attorney Edward Bennett Williams, who advised her that filing a lawsuit would simply fuel the rumors. She steadfastly refuted them, stating that there was no basis for the allegations and that she had never dated him.

She strongly stated that he had never hit on her. She starred in the 1964 movie “The Killers” with future president Ronald Reagan. Angie mentioned how she and Reagan had a connection and might have dated if circumstances had been different.

She also dated Johnny Carson at one point. People began speculating about them after their joint performances on “The Tonight Show” demonstrated how enthralling their friendship was.

Angie predicted that she and Carson will “always be attracted to each other” back in 1985. The “Dressed to Kill” actor caused controversy when David Janssen openly escorted her to an event during her split from Burt.

Angie was his co-star on “A Sensitive, Passionate Man” at the time, and Janssen had recently ended a brief separation from his wife, Dani. The actress said that she was free to leave whenever she wanted.
