Studies suggest that happiness tends to increase around the time after childbirth for older mothers, while for younger mothers, the effect is short-lived. Late motherhood comes with some notable benefits, and Cameron Diaz serves as an ideal example. Her story has the potential to alter the perspectives of those who may have had doubts about getting pregnant after 40.
We have a soft spot for miracles and would like to share one of these incredible stories featuring the renowned actress, Cameron Diaz.
In December 2019, Cameron Diaz and her husband, Benji Madden, embraced parenthood for the first time. This announcement went viral on the internet, sparking widespread discussions about late motherhood. Diaz’s journey offered renewed hope to women who may have felt discouraged about trying to conceive.
While the actress endeavors to keep her personal life private, those in her inner circle have disclosed that the couple faced years of attempts to conceive before joyfully welcoming their daughter, named Raddix. A source mentioned, “They went through so much to get to this point.”

Diaz reveals that she dedicated more than half of her life to the public, and now she believes it’s acceptable “to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world.” Starting a new decade with a child makes her feel happy, blessed, and grateful. One of her primary objectives is to protect her little one.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Diaz admitted that spending time with her daughter felt like a true version of heaven. Her fresh and peaceful appearance reflects the joy she finds in each moment. Diaz emphasizes the significance of savoring every day as her daughter undergoes constant changes, saying, “every single day, there are leaps and bounds, and these things that happen — she’s not the same baby she was yesterday.”
She went on to explain that experiencing such things never happened to her and Benji before becoming parents. “It’s so gratifying to actually get to see that growth and to be a part of it and to help let her be her, and it’s just amazing,” she added.
Diaz playfully jokes about the shift in content on her phone, noting that it’s no longer filled with pictures of her dogs and their mess (given they have four dogs). Instead, the couple now has “Baby Shark” and “Elmo’s Song” on constant rotation, and the entire family enjoys it. Diaz takes pride in being a joyful mom, relishing moments when she sees her daughter gaze at her daddy with boundless love.
In an interview with Naomi Campbell, Diaz discussed her approach to finding balance in life. She acknowledged that many people start their families earlier in life, saying, “They get married [and] have a family in their youth. I’m kind of doing it in the second half of my life.” Despite enjoying the privacy she now values, there is still some pressure, even in late motherhood. Diaz humorously remarked, “I have to be, like, 107. So, no pressure!”
Despite the challenges and pressure, Diaz is confident that this phase of her life is her “sweet spot” and the happiest time she has experienced. She believes that having a family at her age is a deliberate and conscious choice, distinct from the experiences of earlier years. Diaz emphasized, “Having a family when you’re young, it’s like anything when you’re young, you do it. When you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard for it.”
During the interview, Naomi Campbell observed that Diaz appeared more beautiful and content compared to before, signaling that a sense of balance had finally been achieved in her life.
