William Kyle Carpenter, you may or may not be acquainted with his name, but there’s no denying that he is a well-known American hero.
Kyle enlisted in the US Marines when he turned 21 and quickly rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. In 2010, he received orders to deploy to Afghanistan.
Kyle and another Marine were in the midst of a fierce firefight when a grenade suddenly landed nearby. Without a moment’s hesitation, Kyle sprang into action, ready to face the danger head-on.
Kyle’s swift choice demonstrated his resolute fortitude and ultimately brought about a positive change in his life. He fearlessly threw himself onto the grenade to protect his friend from any harm.
He gave up everything by sacrificing his own life to make sure his fellow Marine was safe.
Of course, the blast that came after caused him to sustain severe injuries. His face and skull were shattered, and his body was riddled with shrapnel.
Furthermore, Kyle experienced a collapsed lung and had a part of his jaw removed. Upon his arrival back at Camp Bastion, he was labeled as P.E.A. (patient expired on arrival).
Kyle had, in a way, left this world. He somehow continued to exist.
Kyle needed to have a total of forty surgeries scheduled throughout the next couple of years.
He not only received the prestigious Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama but also received the Purple Heart for his bravery.
Kyle has retired from the military and is now working towards a degree at the University of South Carolina.
