Garth Brooks notices a woman holding a sign and walks straight off the stage after reading it.

Many vocalists and artists are fully conscious that music may aid us even in the darkest and most terrible situations. Whenever the sign was given to the woman in the class, Garth Brooks knew precisely what was going to occur.

“You have all of my strength, you have everyone’s strength.”

Garth Brooks spoke the words above straight from the heart to Theresa Shaw during a recent show in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Shaw was in the middle of her battle with stage 3 breast cancer – but nothing could stop her from seeing Garth in concert.

Just that morning, Shaw had endured an hours long chemotherapy session that left her exhausted. Despite her condition, Shaw ran down to the stage with a sign that read, “Chemo this morning. Garth tonight. Enjoying the dance.” when the song began to play.

When the crowd around realized the meaning of her sparkly sign, everyone began roaring in encouragement and applause, nearly drowning out Garth’s voice.

In true Garth Brooks fashion, the country legend sat down on the edge of the stage and finished singing “The Dance” straight to Shaw. As he finished up the song, Garth unstrapped his guitar, gave Shaw a kiss of encouragement and handed over his custom Takamine to the astonished woman.

Garth then grabbed her sign and declared victory over the woman’s sickness, encouraging her to soldier on with the strength of those around her.

The unplanned moment stirred hope in the heart of Shaw and gave Garth a huge dose of perspective. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he revealed the impact Shaw had on his life in that moment.

If a celebrity like Garth Brooks can take time out of his day to encourage someone in the middle of their fight, so can we.
