JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced one of its beloved police dogs is retiring from the force.
JCSO said K9 Remco is a Belgian Malinois that was imported from the Netherlands. Over there, he was trained in the protection sport Shutzhund before making the switch to police work.
He is a single-purpose K9 certified in patrol work, including human tracking, evidence collection, and criminal apprehension.
K9 Remco completed hundreds of hours of training with Corporal Hohl. These included conferences, tracking courses, high-risk deployment courses, a supervisor course, and a SWAT/K9 integration course.
Remco is also no stranger to school or community events across Jackson County.
He is a level-headed, fun-loving dog who took his work seriously, according to JCSO.
JCSO says during their eight years together, Remco and Hohl were responsible for over 100 captures, 20 physical apprehensions, and locating three missing people. One of the missing people that were located was a young child.
Remco was the first K9 integrated to help the SWAT team in numerous operations. JCSO says his presence and success were the catalysts in growing the current K9 program from two patrol dogs to four.
In his retirement, Remco will live with Corporal Hohl and his family.
Right now, his retirement plans include hiking, swimming, and hanging out by the pool with his family.
