Stand-up comedian and actor Sinbad continues to receive therapy, fighting for every inch

David Adkins, better known as Sinbad, the stand-up comedian, and actor, had a terrible break in 2020 when he experienced a life-threatening ischemic stroke caused by a blood clot that had moved from his heart to his brain.

The actor’s family, famed for his roles in “Coneheads,” “Houseguest,” “Necessary Roughness,” and “The Sinbad Show,” among other films, confirmed the news to the Hollywood Reporter through a representative, stating that the celebrity was a source of light and joy for many generations.

At the time of the statement’s release, the actor’s family disclosed that Sinbad had begun his rehabilitation road, and they were hopeful that he would soon return to giving people joy, as he was known to do.

They also expressed gratitude to everyone who has remembered their family in their prayers and requested fans to continue praying for the comedian’s recovery.

Two years after his incident, the “Jingle All The Way” star’s health has substantially improved, and he is now able to walk again. His family recently sent out a letter to fans in which they told them how the actor is doing and what his medical journey has been like since the stroke.

They disclosed that he had a thrombectomy to remove the clot, following which he was able to walk again. Unfortunately, the physicians discovered that another clot had grown, necessitating a second treatment for the actor.

He experienced several more medical issues before being placed in a medically induced coma. Sinbad’s family supported him throughout his difficulties and were distraught when the road to recovery appeared to be everything but clear.

They remained at his side when he opened his eyes weeks later, began to move, and even began extensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Sinbad was discharged from the hospital after nine months of intensive care in July 2021. His family has now stated:

“He is still receiving therapy and struggling for every inch.”

For two years, Sinbad remained optimistic that he would fully recover, despite doctors’ telling him that his odds of surviving such a traumatic experience were only about 30%.

The legs and hands that doctors labeled “dead” are suddenly working again, which many can only describe as a miracle. The singer is relearning to walk after battling for two years. “I am not finished,” Sinbad said to his family. “I’m not going to stop fighting until I can walk across the stage again,” she said, adding, “and neither will we.”

Sinbad’s family recently posted on the actor’s Instagram page about his progress, showing him relearning to walk in physical therapy. Sinbad was shown in the photograph utilizing walking assistance and looking determined.

They gave the picture and a note of thanks to everyone who had helped and loved Sinbad during his health problems.

The actor is especially thankful to Meredith Adkins, to whom he has been married twice. The couple married in 1986 and had two children before divorcing in 1992. They renewed their old romance, married again, and have been together ever since.

Aside from his loving wife, the actor of “The Good Burger” may rely on his children, son Royce Beckley Adkins and daughter Paige Adkins, for support. They have never left his side since he had the stroke.

The two rushed to Facebook to express their gratitude for everyone’s help, including flowers, good wishes, phone calls, texts, and, most importantly, prayers. They then urged everyone to continue praying for their father’s recovery.

Sinbad is a proud grandfather to Jalen Sky, in addition to being a loving husband to his wife and a doting father to his two children. The comedian periodically posts images of himself and Jaylen on Instagram, adding that having the little kid around makes his life so much better.
