The Bob McGrath Facebook page posted an update regarding the star on December 4, 2022. The dates 1932 through 2022 were featured in a flashback shot of the smiling “Sesame Street” classic.
The McGrath family disclosed in the caption that they had some bad news to give. They stated that the actor died quietly at home at the age of 90, ten years shy of 100.
According to the family, he died surrounded by his loved ones. The late musician was well-known for his role as one of the first human characters on the children’s television show “Sesame Street.”
Bob made his television debut in the first episode of the series in 1969. He portrayed Bob Johnson on the children’s show for 47 seasons and five decades.
In 2017, the celebrity made his final appearance on the show, although he continued to commemorate his position on the show. He attended several public events related to the fan-favorite program.
Bob was survived by his wife of 64 years, his five children (two boys and three daughters), and eight grandchildren when he died. His wife was an important part of the star’s life until his death.
Bob grew up on a farm and had planned to study engineering until he got a music scholarship and decided to pursue it. He first attended the University of Michigan for a year before continuing for three years and earning a bachelor’s degree.
He attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he got a master’s degree, and subsequently began teaching. He met Ann Logan Sperry, a fellow instructor, at that time.
Ann became one of the star’s closest team members after he left teaching to become a performer. Bob previously attributed her influence and “tremendous knowledge of children” to her teaching career, adding:
“She has been very helpful to me.”
Bob and Ann married in 1958 before they had their first child. During a 1987 newspaper interview, the artist expressed how happy he was with his wife and family at the time.
He and his wife supported each other and collaborated while raising their children in a pleasant environment. Until the actor died, the pair continued to make the most of their lives.
Bob and his wife lived their lives to the fullest until Bob died. For example, on December 23, 2021, just days before Christmas, the pair made a lengthy Facebook post with a video of the two smiling and looking at each other with love in their eyes.
Bob and his wife appeared pleased in the video, wearing Christmas hats and sitting in front of a Christmas tree. The celebrity said that the year had been difficult, but that they had things they wanted to share.
He explained that they had spent most of the year isolated because of the COVID-19 epidemic. While Ann was taking piano lessons, the couple did Zoom chair yoga three times a week.
His wife began doing puzzles, and he remained busy gardening and going on walks with Ann. Their children visited their families on a frequent basis, and one granddaughter would assist them in making meals and keeping the house operating well, as Bob stated:
“Ann and I could not be more grateful for all the support we’re getting right now.”
For his wife’s 88th birthday in May 2020, they had a large family gathering on their lawn. He relaxed for two movies and attempted to sell his huge CD collection before expressing his desire to digitally meet up with his former “Sesame Street” colleagues at Galaxy Con in 2022.
Ann’s spouse wants to release new songs in 2022 as well. The pair published another Valentine’s Day Facebook image for 2021, showing them grinning as they hugged and posed behind some flowers.
In March 2022, the former “Sesame Street” star and Ann celebrated another important event, St. Patrick’s Day. To mark the event, the man and woman wore green top hats and smiled while the actor held his wife close.
