Raquel Welch, a legend in Hollywood, died on Wednesday at age 82 after a “brief illness.” After that, a co-host on the ABC talk show “The View” tried to compare Welch to Kim Kardashian, which, well, let’s just say it didn’t go well for her.
Whoopi Goldberg, who is in charge of “The View,” began Thursday’s show by praising Welch and comparing her to Kim Kardashian.
“We were so sad to hear that the fabulous Raquel Welch had died. She was one of the world’s most famous sex icons for a long time,” she said. “Sail on, Raquel. Sail on.”
Joy Behar chimed in to talk about Welch’s career in movies like Fantastic Voyage and One Million Years B.C.
She said, “They don’t make sex signs like that any more.”

Sunny Hostin, the other co-host, then started to say, “Well, Kim Kardashian is—”
Before Hostin could even finish, though, the crowd yelled “No!” and stopped her.
“Kardashian?! No!” Behar yelled, and the audience kept booing. “Turning, turning! The crowd is getting restless.”
Hostin couldn’t say anything in response to the answer she got. She looked shocked and had her mouth wide open.
“That’s not even—you can’t even put them in the same category,” Goldberg said. “Look, I’m moving on,” Behar added. “Now she’s mad!”
Welch refused to get naked on screen at any time.
Welch’s manager, Steve Sauer, told People Magazine on Wednesday that she had “passed away peacefully this morning after a short illness.”
“Her career lasted more than 50 years, and she was the star of more than 30 movies and 50 TV shows and appearances,” he said. In recent years, the Golden Globe winner was part of a very successful line of wigs.
“Raquel’s two children, a son named Damon Welch and a daughter named Tahnee Welch, will miss her,” Sauer said in the end.
Fans of Welch know that she is very different from Kardashian, who became famous because she was in a sex tape. Welch, on the other hand, refused to ever be naked in her movies, even though she was known as a sex icon for decades. She even wrote in her autobiography that she “always hated feeling so exposed and vulnerable” in love scenes.
She told The New York Times, “I’ve definitely used my body and sex appeal to my advantage in my work, but I’ve never gone too far.” “There are some things I keep for myself, and I don’t sell them.”
Goldberg Speaks Out Against Kardashian
This comes two months after Goldberg spoke out against Kardashian when Charlize Theron told The Hollywood Reporter that “the market of what Kim Kardashian represents” has “way more value” than what Meryl Streep, one of the best actresses working today, does.
“I don’t believe that. Kim Kardashian can’t get a movie greenlit, or it would’ve happened,” Goldberg said. “That’s not possible. She might be able to get TV shows made, but that’s about it. She might be able to help make things happen, but Charlize, I’ll tell you that you have more pull in the industry than I do. You are better at getting things done than I am. Till was 11 years.”
So, there are things that can happen and people who can make them happen, but I don’t know many people who can do that besides a lot of men, she said.
Even though we don’t always agree with Goldberg, we’re glad she defended Welch when her co-host compared her to Kardashian. Raquel Welch had more class than Kim Kardashian will ever have, in the end.
